cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran outside a hostess store in san leandro. is there any hope or is this a done deal? >> actually i was on the phone with a hostess representative and he says this really is a done deal and this means 18,000 employees effectively are out of a job and all baking at hostess facilities has stopped. the company just said that they couldn't keep up with the demand with so many workers off the job. hostess reps say it's the largest -- it was its largest union nationwide strike that crippled operations. the company filed for bankruptcy for the second time and they argue that worker needed to make concessions in order to improve the financial situation. workers wouldn't back down. hostess' largest union rejected a contract offer it made in september. workers said the iconic bakery wanted too much. >> he didn't seem to be scared. >> i need to fight for my rights. i need to support my family. >> reporter: hostess tells us they filed the motion with the u.s. bankruptcy court just this morning and a hearing is scheduled for monday morning.
